The Potato Barn Revival: Honoring History with a Modern Touch by Steven Mezynieski Bringing the Potato Barn Back to Life: A Fresh Take on Heritage by Steven Mezynieski I’m Steven Mezynieski, and I want to share a project that means a lot to me, the restoration of an old potato barn on County Road 39 in Tuckahoe, New York. This barn holds more than just structure. It’s a part of Long Island’s farming heritage. Decades ago, it supported local potato farmers, with a unique pebble road leading to the top floor where crops were unloaded. But like so many relics of our past, it eventually fell into disuse, its frame standing silent and forgotten. Over the years, it became an eyesore and a safety concern—its silhouette a fading reminder of what once was. But I saw something different.   Steven Mezynieski's Vision: Where Skill Meets Purpose in Every Scoop In the world of construction and environmental site work, success is often built by what you deliver and who you serve along the way. Southampton Excavation is proud to serve both our clients and our community. For us, the work doesn’t stop when the machinery powers down. Our work is driven not just by skill, but by a strong sense of purpose, something that starts with our founder, Steven Mezynieski . Supporting Our Community with Purpose Behind every shoreline we rebuild or property we clear, there’s a belief that business should be a force for good. Over the years, we’ve quietly supported a variety of local initiatives, ranging from education and youth programs to public wellness and veteran support. “We don’t give for credit; we give because we care,” says Mezynieski . “I’ve always believed that the strength of a business is measured not just by its growth, but by what it gives back.” Quiet Giving, L...

After being battered by three consecutive nor’easters, the beach suffered heavy erosion, leaving homes, roads, and the local ecosystem dangerously exposed. With floodwaters rising and the structural integrity of the coastline at risk, the community had a decision to make: wait and hope or act quickly to protect the place they love. That’s when we at Southampton Excavation, led by founder Steven Mezynieski, were called in to help. And we answered fast.   Emergency Coastal Resilience in Action The urgency of the situation couldn’t be overstated. Coastal roads were flooding. Backyards were disappearing. The very landscape that defined Montauk...
